Lismore Heritage Centre Situated within the old Courthouse Building in the heart of Lismore town, Lismore Heritage Centre was opened in 1992 to share insights into Lismore’s formidable history and heritage. Boasting a picturesque location at the foot of the Knockmealdown Mountains, Lismore is famous for the magnificent Lismore Castle (dating back to 1185) that was once the home of, the famous Broadway performer, Adele Astaire and Kathleen Kennedy, sister of John F. Kennedy. Inside this private residence can only be viewed using through the Lismore Castle Experience. Key highlights of a visit to Lismore Heritage Centre include:
Lismore Castle Experience 360 Your guide will bring you through the curtain where you will be immersed in the experience and history of Lismore Castle using modern-day technology. You will then see inside the castle using 360 imagery showing the castle as it is today with historic characters from the past telling their story. A local guide will be on hand to answer any questions the group may have. Lismore Castle Experience – See inside the castle in VIRTUAL REALITY Your guide will bring you through the curtains where you will be immersed in the experience and history of Lismore Castle using modern-day technology. You will be given a tablet on which the history of the objects in the room will be visible by holding the device up to a trigger on the wall. Discover how priceless artefacts were secreted away and forgotten about for 200 years. You will then be taken through the Cavendish Blue door into the virtual reality room where you will either put on a headset or watch the floor to ceiling images of the rooms inside Lismore Castle all while being guided by Robert Boyle, who will tell the story of those who came before and after him to live in this beautiful place. Lismore Guided Town Tour Through an expert of local Lismore Heritage Guide, visitors are brought right into the heart of the history, culture and heritage of this jewel of a town in County Waterford. The walk begins at Lismore Heritage Centre and ends by St. Carthage’s Cathedral. Hear about Lismore’s time as the greatest Monastic School of the 18th Century, the Viking invasions in Lismore and Lismore’s 12th century Roundhill Norman Settlement. Learn about the historic Lismore Castle and the famous people who have lived and visited there including Fred Astaire and John F.Kennedy. Visit St. Carthage’s Cathedral with its medieval tombs, stone carvings and fine stained glass windows. Meet at the Lismore Heritage Centre 10 minutes before tour departure time. Robert Boyle Escape Room Robert Boyle has been trying to solve many of the most puzzling scientific questions of the 17th century. Robert Boyle’s nemesis, the fraud, Vincenzo Falcone believes that Boyle has discovered a mysterious ingredient which can turn base metals into gold and give humans the gift of immortality. Falcone knows the Boyle is away on important business in the city today and Flacone will be here in 60 minutes to search Boyle’s study for his secret Alchemy Box. Can you find it before Falcone gets here? Find the clues, crack the codes and get out of the room with the box. You only have 60 MINUTES and THE CLOCK IS TICKING. LADY LOUISA'S WALK Stroll along the favoured trail of Lady Louisa, the daughter of the 7th Duke of Devonshire. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of nature and hear all about her, her family and their association with Lismore Castle. Day: Monday
MOTTE AND BAILEY Take a trip down along the river Blackwater on an incredibly scenic walk through the field in this Special Area of Conservation with its mature semi-natural vegetation. This very impressive large defensive earthen Castle is known as a Motte and Bailey and was constructed by the Norman’s in the 12th century. Irish Folklore and stories that go with this area will be sure to catch your interest. Day: Wednesday and Friday
BALLYSAGGARTMORE TOWERS Your guide will take you along this looped walk through a magical, wooded area where the folly affectionately known as “The Towers” reside. All the while you will be given an account of the story of Arthur Kiely Usher, how the place came to be and the details hidden around the trail. From the trees lining the path to the history of the buildings themselves, you are sure to find something new and interesting along the way. Day: Tuesday and Thursday
LISMORE CASTLE VR EXPERIENCE With our Lismore Castle VR Experience see inside the castle as if you were really there with an introduction to the experience by a local guide. Using Augmented Reality discover the secrets of the Castle. Using Virtual Reality come face to face with the characters who lived in the castle and immerse yourself in the rooms inside this iconic building. Duration: 45 minutes Price: Adults: €10 Seniors: €8 Children: €5 Time: First show at 9.30 am. Every hour on the half-hour last show at 3.30 pm Take that first step through the curtains where you will be immersed in the experience and history of Lismore Castle using modern technology. Discover how priceless artefacts were hidden away and forgotten about for over 200 years. From there you will be taken through the Cavendish Blue door into the Virtual Reality room.
